The Wood County Engineer initiated the WOO-Oregon Road Grade Separation with CSX Railroad project located near Owens Community College, Penta Career Center and the Ampoint Industrial Park. Long traffic backups and safety concerns highlighted the initial study. This project was designated a Tier II project on Governor Taft’s Railroad Grade Separation Program. DGL conducted a feasibility study, which was approved on January 15, 2004. The offset realignment of Oregon Road allowed the existing Oregon Road to operate at full capacity during most of the construction period.

DGL designed the three span precast concrete I-beam superstructure on hammerhead piers and stub abutments. An MSE wall was also designed for the front of the south abutment to protect a private sanitary line owned by Ampoint Industrial Park. The north abutment utilized a conventional spill-through type design. In addition to roadway and bridge design activities, DGL completed all right of way plan development to support the project’s construction.
