DGL and The Andersons are privileged to be receiving an honor award today at the 2017 Engineering Excellence Awards Ceremony for the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC)! Representatives from The Andersons and Monclova Township will join DGL at the ceremony. The Engineering Excellence Awards is an annual program that brings well-deserved public recognition to Ohio's engineering industry by spotlighting projects that demonstrate a high degree of uniqueness, ingenuity and value. The Honor Award DGL and The Andersons have earned is for the bioretention cell design at The Anderson’s Headquarters. The award is a result of the originality, technical value, social and economic considerations, as well as complexity within the stormwater management and drainage field, focusing on bioretention solutions.

DGL’s bioretention cell design for The Andersons is currently the largest of its kind in the Northwest Ohio region!

Project Details: The Andersons, Inc., a Maumee based agribusiness, enlisted DGL, along with other professionals to assist with site selection, planning and final design of their world-class headquarters. The site, which included the redevelopment of 37 acres of a private golf club, was designed to preserve existing, environmental features. DGL addressed the issue of constructing the new headquarters and adding a massive parking lot, while considering the surrounding environment, with LEED principles.

DGL utilized landscaped islands as bioretention cells to divide the 700-car parking lot. These bioretention cells also served as part of the client’s detention and water quality system. The cells and storm sewer system clean and retain storm water to maintain the natural stream flow in the adjacent wooded area, and further protect nearby Swan Creek.
