Civil Designer
Position Information
Provide the necessary technical engineering knowledge to assist in the planning, implementation, development and review of site-civil project tasks. Able to prepare existing base drawings, and detailed proposed drawings, in accordance with project requirements with an overall knowledge of civil engineering standards and applications.
Reports to Department Lead and Project Manager
Full-time, Non-Exempt
7-10 years of previous experience in drafting
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares drawings and supporting calculations for site-civil projects, including demolition plans, geometric plans, grading plans, utility plans, and stormwater treatment in accordance with project requirements.
Provide the necessary code research required to meet the standards of the approving municipality or jurisdiction.
Communicate with project leaders and other team members for a thorough understanding of project scope.
Communicate with clients and subconsultants within the parameters set up by the project manager.
Keeps direct supervisor informed of key/significant issues or concerns promptly to maintain project schedules and deadlines.
Knowledgeable in current industry trends, practices, and technology. Continuously update job knowledge regarding planning, design, and engineering practice.
Provide technical engineering support to administration, marketing, and business management teams when needed.
Provide drafting support to other departments (transportation, structural, traffic, and survey) as necessary
Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself and co-workers. Responds to hazardous situations and/or potentially unsafe conditions by taking corrective action as capable and promptly notifying supervisory personnel.
Skill Set
Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy, organization, and within established deadlines.
Effectively communicate with project team members and fellow employees throughout each of DGL’s offices.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, review agencies, stakeholders and the general public.
Ability to conduct themselves in a professional manner.
Ability to work independently and cooperatively on various sized projects.
Ability to communicate effectively; speak and write clearly, concisely and use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation
Valid Driver’s License required with a favorable driving record
Education
Associate Degree in Engineering Technology preferred, or equivalent training with relevant experience
