Construction Technician
Position Information
As a multi-disciplinary engineering firm, success in this position will require the ability to complete all aspects of construction administration and inspection services as necessary. DGL is looking for a Construction Technician to enhance the qualifications of our Construction Management Department.
Reports to Director of Technical Services
Full-time, Non-Exempt
1-2 years of previous experience in construction engineering, preferred
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Include but are not limited to the following:
Work under supervision of a Resident Engineer, Project Manager or Senior-level Team Members
Serve as Project Inspector on construction projects
Communicate with Department leaders for understanding of project scope
Oversee daily inspection of work performed by the contractor
Record daily construction activities, quantities, contractor’s equipment and on-site personnel
Attending and facilitating construction progress meetings
Assist with review/approve contractor’s shop drawing submittals
Monitor overall project budget and review/approve contractor’s pay requests prior to submitting to the project manager/resident engineer for final approval
Assist with review/approve contractor’s change orders
Schedule and review material testing and make sure results are per project requirements and specifications
Coordinate with other engineers and surveyors on project requirements
Provide survey support as necessary
Provide civil engineering drafting support (Bridge/Site/Roadway/Traffic) as necessary
Obtain and maintain safety certifications and client pre-qualifications (ODOT/OTIC)
Skill Set
Willingness to learn applicable computer software (Microsoft Office, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Primavera P6 Scheduling, AASHTOWare, GoFormz, etc.)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proven success in delivering high quality project submittals
Must be well organized
Professional demeanor
Ability to communicate effectively with all types of people
Valid Driver’s License required with a favorable driver’s record
Education
Associate’s Degree in Construction and/or High School Diploma
Ability to complete required courses and training to obtain and maintain ODOT/OTIC construction related pre-qualifications based on agency requirements and/or NICET Construction Certification
