GIS Analyst

Position Information

GIS Analyst responsibilities include creating, developing, and maintaining GIS databases, shape/coverage/layer data, and linkages to various databases. Duties also include entering data into the GIS, providing GIS support to various clients, creating reports, creating executable code functions, and producing maps. The GIS Coordinator performs programming and analytical project responsibilities which include: developing, coding, analyzing, and performing quality control functions to geographic related systems.

  • Reports to Department Lead and Project Managers

  • Full-time, Non-Exempt

  • 3 years of previous experience in GIS


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Job knowledge continuously updated regarding planning, community design and sustainability issues, ideas and methods as well as engagement tools and strategies, and is knowledgeable in current trends, practices and technology.

  • GIS product development and data management

  • Cartography and creation of mapping products

  • Technical support to engineering, communications, and business management teams

  • Report generation for client deliverables. Utilizes written and graphic skills for developing and presenting reports and projects.

  • Creation of analytical tools (coding) in GIS environment for various applications

  • Able to work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Performs a variety of tasks related to the collection, analysis, and interpretation of a variety of quantitative and qualitative data to prepare reports, studies and maps.

  • Conducts field evaluations and assessments.

  • Assists the project manager and Senior Planner with project execution.

  • Research requirements and standards.


Skill Set
  • Proficiency in geographic information systems (ArcGIS Desktop, ArcPro or equivalent) and strong oral and written communication skills are required.

  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy, organization and within established deadlines

  • Ability to conduct themselves in a professional manner

  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively on various sized projects

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees, stakeholders and the general public

  • Ability to communicate effectively; speak and write clearly, concisely and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation

  • Knowledge of Ohio transportation systems and community/regional planning is preferred.

  • Valid Driver’s License required with a favorable driving record


Education/Certifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in GIS, Geography, Planning, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or related field of study required

  • Licensure/Certification: GISP and AICP not required. Working toward various certifications encouraged.
