Transportation Engineer - Bridge

Position Information

As a multi-disciplinary engineering firm, success in this position will require the ability to complete all aspects of bridge design and inspection services as necessary. DGL is looking for an Entry-Level Transportation Engineer to enhance the qualifications of our Transportation - Bridge Department.

  • Reports to Project Manager & Director of Structures (Transportation)

  • Full-time, Non-Exempt

  • Previous co-op experience in engineering, preferred


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Prepare structural design and detailing of bridges and culverts

  • Complete the production of plans and specifications for bridges and culverts

  • Complete bridge inspections and prepare/edit reports in AssetWise

  • Prepare bridge type studies and similar reports

  • Complete load rating analysis of bridges

  • Assist with design assistance during construction including answering contractor questions and complete shop drawing reviews

  • Coordinate with other engineers and surveyors on project requirements

  • Provide civil engineering drafting support (Site/Roadway/Traffic) as necessary

  • Obtain and maintain safety certifications and client pre-qualifications (ODOT/OTIC)


Skill Set
  • Experience with applicable computer software (MicroStation, AutoCAD, LEAP Bridge, AASHTOWare BrR, AssetWise, Microsoft Office); and willingness to learn additional software/programs as necessary

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Proven success in delivering high quality project submittals

  • Must be well organized

  • Professional demeanor

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all types of people

  • Valid Driver’s License required with a favorable driver’s record


Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET accredited institution

  • Engineering Intern (E.I.) Certification in Ohio in progress, or the ability to obtain Ohio Certification within 6 months of start date
