OTIC Toll Collection System Modernization Presentation Given at the November TSPE Chapter Meeting

Exciting changes are coming to an Ohio Turnpike interchange near you! Over the next several years, travelers of the Ohio Turnpike will have a faster, easier, and safer experience, thanks to a new gateless toll collection system being implemented.

This past Friday the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission presented at the Toledo Society of Professional Engineers’ chapter meeting. Their time and commitment to the Toledo area is greatly appreciated. We’re especially appreciative of the speakers, Executive Director of the Ohio Turnpike Infrastructure Commission Ferzan Ahmed, P.E. and Chief Engineer Chris Matta, P.E. for taking the time out of their busy schedules. The presentation covered changes and updates to the Ohio Turnpike’s toll collection system and elaborated on changes to the Turnpike interchanges which will allow for this system to be implemented.

Ahmed Hamid P.E., TSPE’s President Elect, and owner at DGL had this to say about the plan.

“Our traffic and transporation engineers are particularly excited by the improved traffic flow and enhanced safety this new system will provide. Not to mention, the convenience it provides to the traveling public. Removal of the gates will allow travelers to pass through the terminal without coming to a complete stop. This reduces idle time and the need to reaccelerate from a stand still.”

DGL’s Turnpike commuters who depend on the system for an efficient and convenient way to and from our offices are excited by the thought of an even more convenient commute.

A gateless system is the future for the Ohio Turnpike and we’re excited for the advantages that will come with its implementation. You can find more information about the ongoing project including the cost savings it will provide as well as additional benefits on the Ohio Turnpike Website.
