Metroparks Toledo, in partnership with the Village of Whitehouse, Nature’s Nursery, and the Lucas Soil & Water Conservation District, enlisted DGL to provide the design for 3,100 feet of asphalt shared use path (SUP). The Blue Creek North Perimeter Trail provided access for nearby residential areas to the library, village park, and shops of downtown Whitehouse, as well as attractions along Blue Creek, including the Anthony Wayne Youth Foundation’s athletic fields and the Nona France Quarry. DGL assisted the Metroparks in expanding recreational opportunities by developing plans for an approximately 0.6-mile asphalt SUP along the perimeter of the Blue Creek Athletic Fields.
The trail was constructed on Metroparks property and ran along Stiles Road and Providence Street, connecting the parking area at the southeast corner of the property to the existing trail at the northwest corner. The project also included plans for an approximately 1.8-mile SUP connecting Wiregrass Metropark to Secor Metropark. Multiple sections of the path traveled through wetlands and were converted to raised boardwalks, totaling approximately 900 feet. At Historic Fort Miamis, two observation decks were installed, an existing steel sheet pile seawall was removed and replaced, and an ADA-compliant crushed aggregate path connected the public sidewalk at River Road to the new decks.
