DGL has worked closely with The Olander Park System (TOPS) in design of their new multi-purpose loop trail around the 28-acre lake at Olander Park. Due to funding resources, design of the 10-foot-wide asphalt trail was broken into three phases. The 0.6-mile first phase runs along the west side of the lake and ties into the existing bike lane at the south end of the park. The second phase consisted of 1,000-feet of trail along the east side of the lake that also tied into the existing bike lane to the south.
The third phase of trail completes the loop around the lake and includes the removal and reconstruction of approximately 1,500 feet of an asphalt trail along the northeast side of the lake. The first two phases of the trail were constructed in the spring of 2019 with the third phase waited until the fall of 2019. For all three phases of the project, DGL was contracted to provide topographic survey, concept level drawing, construction documents, cost estimates and bid assistance, as well as construction administration services. In addition to fishing, swimming, and kayaking in the spring-fed lake, Olander Park attracts thousands of walkers, joggers, and bicyclists. The new one-mile loop will greatly enhance safety for these users by separating them from the vehicular traffic of the park. Olander Park also hosts multiple races and triathlons annually; the paved loop trail will boost the overall experience of these competitors.
