DGL worked under contract with the architect for the site improvements associated with the renovations to the Toledo Zoo’s existing Aquarium building. The project involved modifications to the building entrances and installation of handicap ramps. Additionally, the site was designed to accommodate the improvements to the mechanical systems behind the building and facilities for a new Penguin exhibit. Mechanical systems modifications required coordination with the existing geothermal well field and supply lines, and separation of the existing combined storm and sanitary sewer systems. DGL worked with a national team, collaborating closely with the national architect in California.
The Aquarium building’s historic WPA architecture was preserved during construction, while the interior was completely remodeled.
