As a subconsultant to Tetra Tech, DGL provided roadway, traffic/safety, lighting, and construction support services for the design and construction of the freeway interchange along Dorr Street at I-475 in Toledo, Ohio. The improvements included widening the existing layout of Dorr Street from two to five lanes between McCord Road and Holland-Sylvania Road. The design also included incorporating a sidewalk along both sides of Dorr Street.
The purpose of the project was to address future congestion at adjacent interchanges along I-475, improve accessibility for emergency services to the interstate, and to improve access to and from I-475 for The University of Toledo and other new and existing developments within the City of Toledo and Springfield Township.
This project provided improved safety for the area by reducing traffic congestion and delays, improving existing connectivity between I-475 and The University of Toledo and the Dorr Street Corridor, as well as providing better accommodations for pedestrians. DGL’s Roadway and Traffic/Safety teams completed Interchange Justification and Access Management Studies, as well as collected traffic data prior to the design plans. Our team assisted with preparation of traffic control plans for the entire project as well as roadway/drainage plans, and assistance with public involvement meetings. As the project progressed, DGL provided bid support for contractor’s questions and on-going support during construction. The project required detailed coordination with numerous public entities as well as three different jurisdictions, each with their own design preferences. The project was successfully completed in July 2021.
