Underground Utilities, Inc. contracted with DGL to prepare contractor designed maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans for the Rockhill/Cushing/Shroyer Water Main Replacement project in Kettering, Ohio. The project entailed new water mains along Rockhill Avenue, Cushing Avenue, and Lewiston Road, all residential streets. A new water main along Shroyer Road, a 5-lane divided street from Rockhill to Lewiston, was also part of the project. Each residential water main tapped into an existing water main on Far Hills Avenue (SR 48), a 6-lane roadway.
Primary design elements of the MOT plans for the Rockhill/Cushing/Shroyer Water Main Replacement included:
Traffic was maintained in both directions at all times.
Night work was not permitted. The zone needed to be portable to conclude each day’s work.
Kettering Fairmont High School buses and traffic needed to be accommodated within the Shroyer work zone.
Commercial access along Far Hills needed to be accommodated.
