Underground Utilities, Inc. contracted with DGL to prepare contractor designed maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans for the Rockhill/Cushing/Shroyer Water Main Replacement project in Kettering, Ohio. The project entailed new water mains along Rockhill Avenue, Cushing Avenue, and Lewiston Road, all residential streets. A new water main along Shroyer Road, a 5-lane divided street from Rockhill to Lewiston, was also part of the project. Each residential water main tapped into an existing water main on Far Hills Avenue (SR 48), a 6-lane roadway.

Primary design elements of the MOT plans for the Rockhill/Cushing/Shroyer Water Main Replacement included:

  • Traffic was maintained in both directions at all times.

  • Night work was not permitted. The zone needed to be portable to conclude each day’s work.

  • Kettering Fairmont High School buses and traffic needed to be accommodated within the Shroyer work zone.

  • Commercial access along Far Hills needed to be accommodated.
