The Manhattan Marsh Park Development project is a 73-acre expansive marshland ecosystem located in Toledo, Ohio. One of Metroparks’ highest organizational goals was to provide a natural based Metropark within 5 miles of every resident in Lucas County, the development of this land into a park was the final piece in achieving this goal.
The physical improvements included: 1.75-miles of aggregate multi-use path around the marsh, 1,630-feet of precast concrete boardwalk through the marsh with four overlook structures, along with restroom facilities and a parking area. The elevated boardwalk components are made up off eight-foot-wide precast concrete planks on precast concrete beams. The system sits on helical piers that are anchored into the marsh bottom.
The Manhattan Marsh Metropark will enable walking, jogging, running, canoeing, kayaking, and migratory bird, and other wildlife watching. The unique marsh setting will also allow students from the adjacent Chase STEMM Academy and other Toledo area students to use the Metropark as an outdoor learning lab.
