Working with multiple park district disciplines such as landscape architects, architects, and civil engineers to map aging infrastructure and buildings, DGL provided traditional topographic/existing conditions mapping as well as an innovative digital twin of the Toledo Botanical Gardens conference center and surrounding areas.
The purpose of this project was to assist Metroparks Toledo with completing the demolition of a structure, as well as accomplish design improvements for walkways, a Hosta sculpture, and a proposed patio area for an outdoor meeting area adjacent to the conference center. DGL was able to use a previous topographic survey of the site and use the same vertical datum to aid in comparing existing items located in the field to the historic record. Using the latest and most advanced survey instrumentation available, DGL captured millions of data points and thousands of photos of the conference center and surrounding areas to support both current and future design and planning efforts. This digital twin technology enables all disciplines to communicate and collaborate in real time by creating a three-dimensional environment which can be explored on a desktop – helping to accurately identify plant species, measurements, and elevation data.
