The Sandusky County Engineer’s Office contracted with DGL in 2020 to provide professional traffic engineering services related to the County’s CEAO HSIP Safety Awards. The project consisted of two safety studies located at CR 6 (Hayes Ave) / CR 526 (Third Ave) / Stone St (Fremont), and CR 58 and CR 1. DGL collected and reviewed OH-1 reports and obtained updated crash data to include 2017-2019 crashes. The project team identified existing conditions at both safety study locations, reviewed aerial vs. actual conditions, and collected additional data not found in the current study including right-of-way widths. MioVision cameras were used to collect existing traffic data at both intersections. Following the review phase of the project, DGL completed Crash and Capacity Analyses and created traffic models for the existing conditions and the design year, and updated to reflect changes related to potential safety improvements. DGL provided recommendations for improvements along with associated cost estimates and also assisted with the preparation and submission of the Safety Funding Grant Application.
