In 2023, the Fairfield County Park District acquired a parcel to connect non-contiguous parcels in the Two Glaciers Park. The new combined park is the District’s largest, spanning more than 357 acres in Lancaster, Ohio, and providing an ideal habitat for local wildlife.

Following acquisition, the District was interested in completing various development projects to create vernal pools to accommodate native salamander species scattered throughout the property along with strategically placed wood piles.

DGL was contracted by Burgess & Niple to provide as-built survey services for the development. The site had been cleared of trees prior to development but contained numerous shallow divots. While this could have created challenging terrain to map, it proved to be an ideal application for sUAS-based photogrammetry.

DGL’s survey crew and sUAS pilots flew the mapping mission and developed a data set that was able to detail the man-made divots including their location, width, length and depth. A site which would have been difficult to traverse and time consuming to survey using traditional methods was completed efficiently and accurately with the use of our in-house technology.
