Walker Consultants is managing the asset planning for UAkronPark, and based on our successful collaboration on similar university projects, DGL was engaged to provide survey and civil engineering design services for the 2024 Parking Lot Improvements. The $570,000 worth of improvements for 2024 included four separate lots. Improvements for each lot included the following: Lot 07 – grading of gravel and upgrades to provide the appropriate number of ADA spaces; Lot 14 – crack sealing, localized patching, seal coating, and restriping, with an alternate for mill and overlay in isolated areas; Lot 39 – crack sealing, localized patching, seal coating, and restriping; and Lot 43 – asphalt resurfacing, gravel grading, crack sealing, localized patching, seal coating, and restriping.
DGL was tasked with developing plan drawings showing SESC requirements, pavement removal/replacement limits, related removal/salvage requirements, pavement drainage elevations, drainage structure replacement requirements, asphalt aggregate base requirements, concrete curb details, corresponding details and specifications, and unit price bid form with estimated quantities. During construction, DGL reviewed submittals related to their design and make site visits on as-needed basis and as requested by UAkronPark and Walker. DGL completed a site survey of the lots to be repaved and developed drawings showing existing topography, site features, and utilities. Buried private utilities were based on available drawings from the University, and from utility markings performed at the site by the Ohio Utility Protection Service (OUPS). In addition, DGL was tasked with coordinating with subconsultants to provide underground utility locating and pavement borings, and soil testing for the project.
