This project’s purpose was to eliminate a hazardous, at-grade intersection at the south terminus of SR 420 at US 20 by constructing an interchange at the site. Due to a directional ramp carrying SR 420 to US 20 passing through the Pemberville Road intersection, a grade separation and interchange ramp at Pemberville Road was also required.
The work included widening and pavement replacement of 1.87 miles of US 20, design of structures SR 420 and Pemberville Road over US 20, design of ramp interconnects, interchange approach work and associated drainage, maintenance of traffic, and traffic control work items. The two bridges consisted of:
SR 420 Bridge: Two-span prestressed concrete I-beam on semi-integral abutments and cap & column pier
Pemberville Rd. Bridge: Two-span continuous ASTM A572 steel girder bridge on semi-integral abutments and cap & column pier
