DGL was contracted by the Franklin County Engineer’s Office to conduct a Feasibility Study at the Williams and Spangler intersection in southeast Franklin County, Ohio. The project’s primary goal was to improve efficiency of the intersection by reducing delay. The study also examined how the proposed alternatives would affect the intersection’s safety performance, as well as the associated right-of-way implications.
Intersection capacity analyses were conducted for the intersection which compared the current traffic control with the possible alternatives during different time periods. With the existing traffic and the growth rates the area is experiencing, the current traffic control would not be sufficient to efficiently move traffic through the intersection. DGL reviewed both a roundabout and a signalized intersection for Williams Road and Spangler Road. An alternative comparison matrix was developed to assist Franklin County in determining which option to pursue.
