Under an existing traffic counting task order project, the City of Dublin contracted DGL to perform pedestrian counts for their signature bridge “The Link”, which connects pedestrian traffic over the Scioto River.
In addition to overall pedestrian volume, the study provided information estimating pedestrian destination/origin volumes. This extra detail aids the City in understanding exactly how the bridge is used by its citizens and to justify funding in the future. To achieve project goals, DGL utilized Miovision video traffic counters to collect data at each specified location near the bridge. Since the area is heavily traversed and has minimal locations to place counters, DGL worked directly with Miovision support specialists in determining the best locations to set the cameras. The collected data was then processed to create accurate pedestrian traffic counts for those junctions and provided to the City. DGL’s traffic team is cognizant of the affect weather has on pedestrian traffic so our traffic engineers worked closely with the City to ensure that the 72 hours of data needed would be collected over the best possible 4-day weather period to gather an accurate tally of pedestrian flow.
